U-CARE Venue 2023: Reducing Waste and Enhancing Research Value

Last week, U-CARE Venue, an annual conference with the theme "Improving value and reducing waste in research," took place at the University Main Building in Uppsala. The conference offered presentations, symposia, and discussions with prominent researchers on topics such as patient and public involvement in research and methods to improve study participation and the impact of research.

U-CARE Venue is an annual conference that, under various themes, focuses on challenges and strategies for implementing psychosocial support and psychological treatment via the internet in healthcare. This year's event brought together Swedish and international researchers who addressed the challenges in current research practices and discussed possible ways forward.

The conference was organised by Professor Erik Olsson.
– We are very happy to have such a strong line-up of speakers this year! I really believe that this conference made a difference for how we do research here in the future.

Among the presenters, Professor Shaun Treweek from the University of Aberdeen provided practical advice for improving the recruitment and retention of study participants. Professor Gillian Lancaster from Keele University also presented on how feasibility studies and pilot studies can be used more effectively to reduce waste in research.

A notable feature of the conference was when Louise Ting and Adele Webb, public contributors with extensive experience actively participating and contributing to research as community members or representatives of specific groups, shared their insights. They emphasised the importance of involving the public in all stages of research projects and identified potential pitfalls that researchers may encounter.

We thank all the speakers for their informative and engaging presentations and discussions, and we extend our sincere gratitude to all the participants. Explore the presentations and the posters from U-CARE Venue.
