Mental health difficulties in disadvantaged areas

Associate Professor Meena Daivadanam will be Victoria’s main supervisor and is currently supporting her finalizing the research plan for her PhD project.

– I will do a comparison between Ghana and Sweden, Victoria explains. The aim is to explore the burdens of common mental health difficulties in disadvantaged urban settings and to identify needs and intervention preferences among the targeted population.

Experience in social work

Victoria has previously worked as a teaching and research assistant within social work at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. She moved to Sweden two years ago to study within the Mfamily social work programme.

– In 2021, I graduated with a European master’s degree in social work with families and children, says Victoria. The programme was jointly developed by the University of Lisbon, University of Stavanger, University of Gothenburg, and Makerere University.

Victoria is looking forward to combine her background in social work with global mental health.

– I’m excited about using my knowledge and experience in social work as I explore the area of mental health, learn and apply new concepts in global mental health.

Likes to sing

In her spare time, Victoria likes to sing and being with her friends.

– I enjoy singing different genres and hanging out with my friends to chat and have fun.
