Experiences of nurses and coordinators of the PRIMROSE trial

A recently published study has explored experiences of nurses and study coordinators who have worked within the PRIMROSE trial, in which an intervention aiming to prevent childhood obesity was tested.
Nine nurses and three regional study coordinators who have worked within PRIMROSE were interviewed in the study. The interviews were analyzed using qualitative content analysis.
Two themes were identified. The nurses experienced that it was rewarding to participate in the trial, but challenging to combine the intervention with regular work. The study coordinators experienced that they were in a difficult position handling the conflicting needs of the research group and the nurses’ commitment to usual child health care services.
In addition, the study participants emphasized the importance of support, encouragement, briefer and simpler intervention, and adaptation of the training in motivational interviewing to the setting.
